Internationally Educated Physiotherapist (IEPT) Award

The IEPT Award recognizes the value and diversity IEPTs bring to PT practice in Manitoba. Through this award the MPA aims to support life-long learning and professional development for IEPTs that are new to physiotherapy practice in Canada.

The Award:
Re-imbursement of registration fees up to $700.00 for one or more eligible professional development courses taken within the first two years after receiving the award. Eligible professional development courses are those offered by MPA, any CPA Division, or through the CPA PD Marketplace.
Full rebate of the provincial portion of CPA dues for one membership year.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be registered with CPM (College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba)

Applicants must be members of MPA and CPA

  • Applicants must be new to physiotherapy practice in Canada and in Manitoba and must apply for this award within 2 years from initial registration with CPM
  • The award winner will only remain eligible to claim the award, if they:
    1. Reside and practice physiotherapy in Manitoba during the first two years upon receiving the award
    2. Continue to be a CPA member during the first two years upon receiving the award
  • Applicants must electronically submit an essay (12-point font, double spaced) of a maximum 500 words on one of the following topics.
    - Identify one aspect of physiotherapy practice from your country of graduation that is not part of physiotherapy practice in Canada. Could implementation of this practice in Canada be valuable? What would be required to implement this practice in Canada?
    - Provide your thoughts on the statement “The value that IEPTs bring to physiotherapy practice in MB”.
    - What do you wish PTs that were educated in Canada knew about PTs that were educated outside of Canada?
    - Physiotherapy as a profession: how has your perspective changed since you entered practice in Canada? 

Selection Process:
The Professional Development Chair, Awards chair and at least one other Board member will review the essays and select the recipient on the merit of the essay.

  • The Award Committee will not request additional information. In the instance where candidates are considered equal in meeting the criteria, the committee may use its discretion in considering other variables in bestowing the award. These variables may include previous involvement in Manitoba Physiotherapy Association.
  • The Selection Committee reserves the right to recommend that the award not be given in any one year.

Notification and Presentation:
The MPA Awards Chair informs the winner before June 15. An announcement of the successful candidate will appear in the MPA newsletter “PhysioConnection”. A copy of the winning essay will also be published in the MPA newsletter “PhysioConnection”, if the award winner provides permission.
