Professional Development Award
The Professional Development award recognizes the importance of life-long learning and professional development for new physiotherapy graduates of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Manitoba.
The Award:
- Re-imbursement of registration fees up to $700.00 for one or more eligible professional development course taken within the first two years after graduation. Eligible professional development courses are those offered by MPA, any CPA Division, or through the CPA PD Marketplace.
- Full rebate of the provincial portion of CPA dues for the graduation membership year
Eligibility Criteria:
- Near completion of the second year of study in the Master of Physical Therapy Program
- Student member of CPA for both years of the Physical Therapy program;
- Continues to reside in Manitoba during the first year after graduation and a current member of CPA
- Eligible for registration through the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba Applicants must electronically submit an essay (12 point font, double spaced) of a maximum 750 words entitled: “Physiotherapy as a profession: how has your perspective changed since you entered the program?”
Selection Process:
- The Professional Development Chair, Awards chair and at least one other Board member will review the essays and select the recipient on the merit of the essay.
- The Award Committee will not request additional information. In the instance where candidates are considered equal in meeting the criteria, the committee may use its discretion in taking into account other variables in bestowing the award. These variables may include involvement in Manitoba Physiotherapy Association.
- A recommendation is made by the Awards Committee to the Manitoba Physiotherapy Association Executive Committee or Board by the September meeting, for formal approval.
- The Selection Committee reserves the right to recommend that the award not be given in any one year.
Notification and Presentation:
The MPA Awards Chair informs the winner before fall Convocation. The award will be presented by the President (or designate) at the reception before Convocation. An announcement of the successful nominee will appear in the MPA newsletter. A copy of the winning essay will also be published in “PhysioConnection”, if the student provides permission.
